SHILLONG: 'May He who is the Brahman of the Hindus, the Ahura-Mazda of the Zoroastrians, the Buddha of the Buddhists, the Jehovah of the Jews, the Father in Heaven of the Christians, the Allah of the Mussalmans inspire us to do noble work, think noble thoughts!' This harmonizing common theme of all religions, which was voiced by Swami Vivekananda in 1893 at the Parliament of Religions in Chicago, set the tone for the forthcoming Durga Puja in with an all-religion prayer led by governor Krishan Kant Paul at the annual pre-Puja Get Together of Harmony. The Kristi Kendra, which was the venue of the unique get-together organized by the (CPC), reverberated with the 'Kalyana Prathana' from the Rig Veda, which was offered by representatives of all religions in one voice. In keeping with the 150th birth anniversary of Vivekananda, this year's pre-Puja Get Together of Harmony was dedicated to his memory. Incidentally, the Swami had delivered his last public speech in this salubrious hill station. 'Durga Puja is celebrated by all communities in Meghalaya, generating goodwill among all and bringing various cross-sections of people under one umbrella,' governor Paul observed. Dwelling on the 'flexibility and tolerance' of Indian culture, which has withstood many an onslaught, the governor also observed that the concept of 'unity in diversity' was unique to this country, which had a 'composite culture and character'.
