People should really take the time and watch the movie closely because if you did then you would understand why those scenes were put in there. They represent the sexual awaking of both the Queen and Hong Lim.

When he first has sex with her he is hesitant and uncomfortable but after he has experienced the passion and bliss of having sex with the Queen he becomes addicted to it. Those intense scenes were the representation of his desire to sleep with the Queen. They were put there to symbolize the physical/sexual attraction between the Queen and Hong Lim. In the process of all of this Hong Lim slowly realizes that he has fallen for her. Sorry to say this but people really need to stop being so prude and realize the fact that this happens all the time. The difference here is that instead of it being closely hidden away in the privacy of a person's home it is open to everyone to see on the big screen.

Some people here need to watch indie films because they do the same thing all the time but at the end of the day it's for art. Big budget Hollywood movies don't do things like that because so many are associated with sponsors that would flip a lid if they did something like that all the time.Oh yeah, some of the homophobic comments need to stop.

This close-minded thinking is wrong and saddening. I just had to get this off my chest because some of the comments here rubbed me the wrong way. People's limited exposure to things only just feeds their ignorance.I share your views and opinion. I do however suspect that some us who have expressed shock/surprise at the onscreen nudity and sex scenes may be too young to have watched other movies of a similar nature, and yes, there have been mainstream korean movies (not soft porn movies) where actresses strip to portray simulated sex scenes.

Jeon Do Young, Kim Hye Soo, Seong Hyeon-ah, Yun Jin Seo, Kang Hye Jeong, are just examples of well-known actresses who had to strip and simulate sex scenes in order to advance the storyline. Song Ji Hyo also had nude sex scenes in Sex Is Zero 2 but I guess not many paid close attention to that film.For those of you who are 'disgusted' or 'repulsed' at watching 'explicit' scenes in Frozen Flower, then maybe you need to ask yourself why watching two actors pretending to make love can be so disgusting. If the sex scenes look too real for your own comfort, then you should love and praise the actors even more, not criticise the film or fast forward the scene. These scenes appear for only a few minutes at a time but the actors had to do those same scenes more than a few times until the director got what he wanted to print the final cut.Unlike some films, FF has no full frontal nudity, and if you thought Jin Mo and JIS exchanging saliva was 'too in your face', then you'd better wake up bcos homosexual love is not just about two men holding hands. It is important for FF's director to show the strong and intense passionate love between the 3 main characters as they slowly build towards the story's ending.I'm not against those of you who choose to have a different opinion about onscreen nudity and sex scenes. This forum allows anyone who wants to voice their views, no matter how contrary or extreme.

Some of us are more open minded than others, and some of us may be too naive to know or to compare this film with other korean films made in the past where sex scenes are important in building the story. I just saw this movie the other day and I love it. It was beautiful. To be honest, I had no problem with the love scenes because they were essential in being there to show the growing love and sexual attraction between Hong Lim and the Queen. The gay scene wasn't bad but a little messy looking, that's just my opinion. I wanted to read other people's interpretation of what happened in the movie.

IMO I think Hong Lim really was in love with the queen. There are so many indications of it in the film. Like the sachet he bought her and him returning to the palace just to see here even though he was suppose to be investigating the attack on the king. The scene after their night of passion when she tells him she loves by making those flower rice cakes for him. You can see it in his face that he felt the same way. I also think he did love the king but more as a subject or out of duty to the king. I read somewhere a person wrote how the things Hong Lim did for the king was out of duty for the king while the things he did for the queen was for love of the queen.

In the end he was willing to make so many sacrifices just for her. When he thought the queen was dead he knew that had to avenge her but also I think he knew he was going to die in the process. That's why he was no longer fearful of what would happen because the person he truly loved was gone. My interpretation of the end when he saw the queen and turned his face towards the king when she was removed from the room was, IMO, a sign of gratitude towards the king for not killing her. Others say it was him realizing that he truly loved the king but I don't believe that was the case. The king was in a one-sided love affair and never got the love he wanted from HL returned. Every time the king would give him a chance to come by side HL would either reject it or break his promise to the king.Anyway, I do wish there was more intimacy between the queen and HL.

Not so much sexual intimacy bc there was a lot of that but emotional intimacy that gave the audience a better understanding of the growing love between them. Scenes like the sachet one or the one when she gave him the embroidered handkerchief or the flower rice cakes were really nice. But also think if the director had put anymore scenes the movie would have been nearly 3hrs long.Also, those sex scenes didn't seem all that simulated. Sorry for being a little graphic there.All sex scenes, except pornographic ones, are simulated, my friend. They look real to you, very real to you and your friends, because they're just great actors. Song Ji Hyo said in a media interview that she was not worried about baring her body in FF but she was more concerned about getting her body positions right and her facial expressions had to be on cue for the camera. She also had to explain to her parents beforehand why she had to bare her body for this role, since she also had to disrobe for her earlier movie. If you had watched Jeon Do Young's performance in an early film, Happy End, you'd be even more amazed at how graphic she and the actor was in their opening sex scene.What we see onscreen are two bodies rubbing each other.

What we don't see are the 10 or more people standing behind the camera - director and filming crew - watching these two actors 'get it on'. With so many people watching the two actors, do you really think JIS and SJH were actually having real sex, and not pretending? Actors and actresses who perform in these sex scenes are naked but they're actually wearing special body tape to cover their groins.I know many of you think they're really as naked as taking a bath.not because they're 'shy' and not for birth control but for simple personal hygiene reasons.In filmmaking, everything is made real and believable, including gunshots.

When you see a person in a movie get shot nowadays, you see multiple bulletholes and blood spurting out.are you going to tell me that the actor really got shot? Same like sex scenes, it's simulated all the way and 10 or more people are filming the actors, and they have to do that sex scene more than a few times to get the director's approval.

So welcome to the real world of make believe, and that's called movie making. ^ Yeah I know the scene were simulated. I'm pretty well informed on how these scenes are made. I just saying that the actors really gave their all to make it as real as possible.

Some actors are not that bold. I commend them for doing something that is most likely was out of their comfort zone for the sake of the movie.

Love scenes can be really nerve racking for an actor to do because of the fact that, in most cases, they are baring themselves for millions of people to see. JIS and SJH did an amazing job conveying the passion and love that grew between them during those scenes.

The realism of the scenes made you between what was going on between these characters that one of the reasons why I didn't mind all those sex scenes.I just wanted to say that most of my comment was partially joking but it doesn't come across well online. Sorry about that.

I just finished watching the movie. I thought it was alright. I liked the song the King sang haha.I would have found the relationship between the Queen and Hong Lim more bearable if the director actually spent more time developing their love instead of showing sex scene after sex scene. I think they had proper conversation for less than 5 minutes of the entire movie. Well I guess lust could turn into love.or they simply thought lust was love.For me, the last look Hong gave the King was probably one of guilt/regret. He probably realized the king had never betrayed him but he had killed him with own hands (hence the little tear lol).

All in all I feel bad for the King.I wouldn't say this is 'a love story between men.' It seemed like the heterosexual relationship between the Queen and Hong took center stage and the King's love for Hong was just there for the drama. After Joo Jin Mo won Best Actor for Frozen Flower in this year's 45th Baeksang Arts Awards, he also mentioned that the main premise of FF was to show the complex relationship between two men who grew up together, and the struggles between loyalty, duty and personal desires.I did wish to see how the complex relationship between the two men played out in this movie but unfortunately I didn't think the chemistry/bond between Hong and the King in the film was that great.

I was expecting for a poignant and deep relationship but it fell flat. I don't know if it was the acting or the director's intentions, but I never felt that Hong ever loved the King. He respected him and was loyal to him, but never loved him. And Hong's emotional turmoil didn't come across well.

So from that aspect I never truly felt the need to sympathize with him since it was always clear that he would chose the Queen in the end. The last few scenes were touching but would have been better if the movie didn't make it seem that Hong was with the King out of loyalty and duty.On a side note, the idea of childhood friends (male) and the complications that occur in the relationship after growing up is pretty nicely depicted in the movie Eternal Summer (Taiwan). It's worth a watch if you're a fan of the genre.

I just finished watching this film.Gosh, it was soooo good!I think JIS loves both ther King and the Queen. Mentally/emotionally he could have even loved the King more; however, by having that phsyical relationship with the queen he is more drawn to her.

I think in the end, he 'preferre' the Queen over the King because that desire for sexual pleasures became love, love for the Queen. And also, the King because of jealousy an anger cause JIS to think ill of him. I think JIS only said he had never loved the king because he didn't know the Queen is still alive - kinda like I am so mad at you I will just say I never loved you just to richard simmons you off. So sad for the JJMWhat is wrong with the King? Is he just gay and that's why he can't be aroused but a woman? Or is there something wrong with him and his.?

^I think when the King asked HL if he loved him he meant as a lover or if he ever was in love with him. HL never considered the King his love and he was never in love with him. He loved him out of duty and friendship. He had a physical relationship with both the King and the Queen but he rather have the Queen. I don't think he just preferred the Queen, I think he really was in love with her.

Throughout the movie so many of his actions were just to please the king initially but when he started to fall for the Queen he started to think about his wants. The King's wants and needs were always before his and finally he realized he didn't want that anymore. He came back in the end to avenge the person he loved. He knew was going to die but for him he had no reason to live when the person he loved was already gone. His love for the King was no way the same or as strong as his love for the queen. I read a part of this thread and i guess there are a lot of discrepancy about the sex scenes.well heres my two centsi liked this movie.

I just felt so bad for all the characters in the end:/only thing that bothered me is the sex scene between Hong and the king.not the homosexual aspect of it.
